Outcry in Algeria over doctor deaths after gruelling on-call shifts

A resident neurosurgeon died of a heart attack after a 24-hour shift, and an anaesthesiologist died days later — deaths colleagues say reflect years of chronic overwork, understaffing and inadequate conditions in Algeria’s public hospitals, demanding a revision of on-call rules dating back to 2013.
