Victim in Subway Shoving Suffered a Broken Skull and Other Injuries
The suspect, Kamel Hawkins, has been charged with attempted murder and was arraigned on Wednesday morning. The victim, Joseph Lynskey, is suffering physically and mentally, a sister said.
A man who was shoved to the subway tracks in Manhattan and into the path of a moving train suffered a fractured skull, four broken ribs and a ruptured spleen, according to court records filed on Wednesday.
The victim, Joseph Lynskey, 45, has “suffered physical and emotional trauma,” said his sister Eileen Parsons.
“Our main priority right now — our sole priority right now — is supporting our brother Joe,” Ms. Parsons added. “We are so grateful that he is alive.”
The person accused of attacking him on Tuesday, Kamel Hawkins, 23, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree and four counts of assault, according to a criminal complaint filed by Manhattan prosecutors.
Mr. Hawkins was arraigned in Manhattan criminal court on Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the district attorney said. A judge ordered that Mr. Hawkins be held in jail until his next court date on Jan. 6.
Mr. Lynskey was in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital as of Tuesday night, the police said.
