Re “U.S. Moves to Drop Pursuit of Trump in Criminal Cases” (front page, Nov. 26):
The indictments of Donald Trump for the Jan. 6 insurrection and for holding onto classified materials were not about the persecution of political enemies or the weaponization of the Justice Department.
Mr. Trump was indicted for aiding a possible coup and multiple other charges, including revealing classified documents to his supporters at Mar-a-Lago. Is that weaponizing our justice system, or allowing it to do its job, regardless of the consequences?
Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s former president, was just charged with inciting Brazil’s attempted coup when he lost his re-election bid in 2022. He was also barred from running again until 2030. It seems Brazil’s justice system is more capable of upholding its laws than ours is. Maybe it’s because that country has experienced military coups and has learned how to safeguard its democracy better than we do.

I am 84, retired, have served my country honorably, and have paid my taxes for years and years. I am now totally disgusted with my country and the judicial system over the Donald Trump legal fiasco.
How am I supposed to tell my grandchildren to respect the law, play fairly and support democracy when democracy is bent and shattered by slick lawyers and convoluted laws that allow Mr. Trump to get away with skirting the law, over and over again? This whole thing stinks!

Re “It’s Time to Drop Criminal Cases Against Trump,” by Thomas Goldstein (Opinion guest essay, Nov. 18):
Mr. Goldstein states, in effect, that Donald Trump is above the law and that politics is above justice.
