Don’t Blame Biden for Trump’s Victory

Re “This Is All Biden’s Fault,” by Josh Barro (Opinion guest essay, Nov. 11):

Mr. Barro is unfair in ascribing Joe Biden’s late decision to leave the presidential race to “his own ego and profile.” He is also unfair in saying that Mr. Biden “failed to prioritize disinflationary policy” in the face of the fact that inflation has come down significantly during Mr. Biden’s presidency.

Certainly Mr. Biden and the Democrats could have made more noise about what they were achieving, and certainly the press could have tuned out more of the noise and lies coming from the Republicans instead of going for the cheap hook and making much of the drama of Donald Trump’s transgressive shtick.

Could it be possible that Mr. Biden, seeing the positive effects on our economic health that his actions were having, was driven by a desire to finish the job and continue to serve the best interests of American workers as he always has?

Casting blame at a person who has worked so hard and so long to help make government serve the people gets us nowhere. I believe that Joe Biden’s consistency, wisdom, skill, experience and accomplishments far outweigh his flaws of human nature or errors in judgment.

According to Josh Barro, we have Joe Biden to blame for Donald Trump’s return to the White House. What is the point of blaming Mr. Biden?

Yes, he could have been content with a single term and passed the torch much earlier, which would have given Kamala Harris or some other Democrat more time to campaign. But we don’t know that this would have made any difference in the end.
