A Worthy Cause (Actually, Many of Them) This Giving Tuesday

Encourage literacy. Feed hungry families. Ensure girls in Africa have access to education. Teach young adults career skills. Support free speech. Fight inequality. Help immigrants gain access to health care.

Today is Giving Tuesday. If you are interested in supporting the services above, please consider donating to The New York Times Communities Fund. The campaign helps fund nine nonprofits taking on these challenges and many others in the New York region and beyond.

Over the next several weeks, the editorial board will highlight each of these nonprofits and their work. We started Thanksgiving Day by showcasing First Book, which provides a wide range of children’s and young adult books at large discounts — sometimes even free — to educators, child care providers and others who work with children. We continued with a look at OneGoal, a mentorship program that helps students from low-income backgrounds prepare for and navigate the college admissions process.
