The dishwasher beckons — but should you answer its call?
Andrew writes: My girlfriend, Maria, and I use plastic mouse traps to deal with pests. I put them in the dishwasher when they need cleaning. Maria says this is disgusting. I disagree; the dishwasher thoroughly cleans everything in it by the end of the cycle. Please help us resolve this.
Our houses are an invasive species upon this planet, and there are few more potent and disgusting reminders that we will eventually lose the battle with nature than mouse poop in your drawers and little caches of seeds under your pillows. While I appreciate your ecofriendly approach to murdering Earth’s creatures, just get the single-use, all-natural wooden neck-snappers and throw them away. While your dishwasher’s sanitizing cycle probably kills 99.999 percent of decomposing-rodent-corpse bacteria (per Whirlpool.com), there’s still a wide-open 0.001 percent mental mouse hole for sheer repulsion to sneak through. If your partner is grossed out, that is the law of the land.
