Josh Groban Takes the Stage at the New York Philharmonic

On a crisp Tuesday night inside David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, the New York Philharmonic kicked off its fall season with a rousing program of upbeat standards from the Great American Songbook.
A crowd of about 600 — in bright crimson and emerald ball gowns and, in one case, a plum fascinator — streamed into the Wu Tsai Theater for a 75-minute program that included “Pure Imagination,” “Over the Rainbow” and “The Impossible Dream (The Quest),” featuring vocals by Josh Groban.
“I chose songs that I felt had a message of hope that we all need right now,” said Mr. Groban, the acclaimed pop-classical singer.
