More than 50,000 runners were taking part in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, making the 26.2 mile journey from Staten Island to Central Park. The weather was cooler than in recent years, allowing for perfect conditions.
Along the route, marathoners were treated to cheers from spectators young and old, performances by bands and DJs and unique signs with encouraging messages.
