Re “What This Moment Calls For” (editorial, Feb. 9):
The New York Times’s editorial board is exactly right in stating, in its online headline, that “Now Is Not the Time to Tune Out” in response to all the illegal and immoral actions of the Trump administration.
As the editorial board writes: “The actions of this presidency need to be tracked, and when they cross moral or legal lines, they need to be challenged, boldly and thoughtfully, with the confidence that the nation’s system of checks and balances will prove up to the task.”
Federal judges are already ruling that President Trump, Elon Musk and his tech henchmen are crossing legal lines. But this administration is also crossing moral lines by ripping immigrant families apart, by denying medical care for trans people, by refusing to send medical and food aid to children overseas, by insulting women and people of color.
So where are the nation’s faith leaders? Why is there no major outcry from those who should respond to the immorality of those running the nation? There needs to be a huge march on Washington organized by the leaders of all faiths to remind the nation and the world that Americans know how moral people behave.

To the Editor:
Your editorial is an excellent summary of the chaos created by the Trump-Musk-Vought wrecking team. It is right on point when it says the current situation “demands wisdom, endurance and courage.” However, the editorial lacks a practical way to counter the current crisis other than highlighting the important role of our courts and Congress in standing up to the unconstitutional onslaught we are observing.
The Democratic leadership of both legislative houses, together with our former Democratic presidents, should take a united lead in bringing some rationality to our chaotic situation. They would be wise to convene an emergency committee that could quickly develop a set of principles and, perhaps weekly, report to the American people in prime time regarding what steps the Democratic leadership has taken in the past week and intends to take in the near future.
