Breaking news. Top Russian general killed after planted bomb detonates under car in Moscow
An investigation into the explosion is underway, Russia’s Investigative Committee said, adding that they are looking into the possible involvement of Ukraine’s security service following a similar incident in December 2024.
A top Russian general died Monday morning after an explosive planted under his car detonated in Moscow, investigators said.
Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, died from his injuries, according to a spokersperson for Russia’s investigative Committee.
“Investigators are pursuing numerous lines of enquiry regarding the murder. One of these is that the crime was orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence services,” spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.
The committee said the incident is under investigation and that it is taking into consideration the bomb could have been planted by Ukraine’s security services, who claimed responsibility for a similar attack in December 2024 that killed Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov.
