Breaking news. Australian police detain two men in connection with shooting at Sydney’s famed Bondi Beach
Two suspects were detained in connection with a shooting attack on Sydney’s famed Bondi Beach. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motives behind the attack.
Australia’s New South Wales Police Force announced that two people were taken into custody in connection with a shooting incident at the iconic Bondi Beach in Sydney.
At around 7:30 pm local time, NSW Police issued a warning on their X profile, urging people to exercise caution, take shelter and avoid Bondi Beach after they were alerted to a possible shooting incident.
It’s unclear at this stage whether anyone was injured in the incident.
Videos circulating on X and other social media platforms showed crowds of people scattering as multiple gunshots and police sirens sounded in the background.
A Hanukkah event was taking place at the famed beach where around 2,000 people showed up to participate, but it remains unclear whether the attack targeted the group.
Videos surfaced on X showing police forces detail two suspects on a bridge where they were pictured earlier firing shots from what appear to be sniper rifles.
More than 50 shots were reportedly fired at beach-goers, civilians and vehicles, according to eyewitnesses.
